Course Description

This training explores speech, language and communication development in the early years. It will provide practitioners with strategies to support these effectively in their settings. The importance of the role of adult in developing excellent early communication skills is considered. This will include use of video reflection, practical activities and group discussions.

The session will allow participants to develop knowledge, skills and confidence in identifying and planning for children with communication needs.

Course Outcomes

  • Develop understanding of speech, language and communication development, including bilingualism
  • Develop knowledge of early language delay and strategies when speaking with parents
  • Learn practical and effective strategies to support children’s language development
  • Reflect on current practice, identifying strengths and areas for your development

Talk2gether – Working with Parents to support their child’s language and communication skills

Thursday 12th March 2020 9:30-16:00

Course Description

The training session will explore the important role that parents play in supporting their child’s language and communication development. We will introduce Talk2gether, a package of resources that you can use with parents in your setting. We will explore the challenges around engaging and working with parents, and through discussion and activities develop your skills so that you feel confident to support parents in your setting

Course Outline

  • Learn about the importance of language and communication skills
  • Learn about how to support parents to develop their child’s language and communication skills
  • Develop your confidence in working together with parents, including having difficult conversations
  • Receive Talk2gether resources and plan how to use them in your setting

Your setting will also receive a follow-up visit to support you in setting up the Talk2gether programme
